The China-ASEAN Business & Investment Summit (CABIS) was proposed by Premier Wen Jiabao of the People’s Republic of China. Co-sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of China, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and supported by ASEAN Chamber of Commerce & Industry, China-ASEAN Business Council and national Chambers of ASEAN countries, the CABIS has become the biggest gathering of Chinese and ASEAN business circles, and is held annually in Nanning, Guangxi, China.

The CABIS were successfully held in the last two years. At the first CABIS, Madam Wu Yi, Vice Premier of the State Council of China, H.E. Mr. Samdech Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, H.E. Mr. Bounnhang Vorachith, Prime Minister of Lao People’s Democratic Republic, H.E. Mr. Lt-Gen Soe Win, Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar, H.E. Mr. Phnij Jarusombu, Vice Prime Minister of Thailand and H.E. Mr. Pham Gia Khiem, Vice Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam delivered speeches. At the 2nd CABIS, Mr. Lt-Gen Soe Win, Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar, H.E. Mr. Choummaly Saygnasone, Vice President of Lao People’s Democratic Republic and H.E. Mr. Somkid Jatusripitak, Vice Prime Minister of Thailand addressed the event.

This year, the 3rd CABIS will be held in conjunction with the China-ASEAN Commemorative Summit and the 3rd China-ASEAN Expo, constituting the greatest political and business event for China, ASEAN and Asia as a whole.

The 3rd CABIS will be held in the Conference Hall of Guangxi People on 31st October, 2006. With the theme of ‘one need, one future’, the 3rd CABIS is composed of 4 parts including: the Opening Ceremony, 2 sessions of State Leaders’ dialogues and the cloture. Chinese and ASEAN State Leaders, senior officials, CEOs and scholars will be invited to the panel in each session for active dialogues and interactions with more than 1000 delegates from the region.
